Status report with presentation
Both a report and a slide show in one document
Last modified: 10/1/98

Weekly status reports often include both a slide presentation and a longer textual report with supporting details. This sample combines both types of information in one easy-to-use online document.

Business uses of this type of document include:
   Status Reports: weekly, monthly, etc.
Proposals: Business plans, product plans, etc.
   Informal presentations: Training, seminars, conferences

Less appropriate would be formal presentations, where you follow a fixed order, without questions, or where detail is not required. The style shown here assumes that many readers will not hear the presentation live.

Goals of the design and how they were met:

Goals of the design: Allow arbitrary navigation and many levels of detail

Start a "guided tour" of the document

The individual stops on the tour: Overview page   |   Map page   |   Slide page   |   Report page   |   Detail page

Start reading the document without comments (NOT a tour)

You can browse the full sample itself without the tour comments.

You can return to this page by following any of the many "Good Documents" links.

Alternative designs:

A linear version of the same material is available for comparison: Linear Version

The linear version lets you compare a typical written report format to the online, linked format.

How the sample was created:

The sample was created using Trellix 1.0 and a bit of hand-coded HTML to turn a Trellix map into a separate page. The actual effect of the document is similar to stand-alone Trellix with its popup map. The linear version was created by copy/pasting from the Trellix linked version into another Trellix document with only one page and exporting to HTML. (Creating a linear document from a non-linear one is much easier than creating a non-linear one from a linear one for the author no matter which tools you use.)

The text is all ficticious, authored by Dan as an example. Julianne and others at Trellix Corporation helped refine the document.
